Independent testing lab AV-Comparatives just published its semiannual Business Security Test report, which aggregates a half-year’s worth of tests known as the lab’s Business Main-Test Series. Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus — a cloud-console managed endpoint protection solution that requires minimal employee effort and takes up zero physical acreage — was among the sixteen business security products tested. Better still, it scored among the highest in every test and earned the AV-Comp Approved Business Product Award.

The Business Main-Test Series consists of three separate tests, administered at different times of the year. These are the tests and the corresponding Avast Business evaluations:

1 - The Real-World Protection Test — AV-Comp notes that this test “mimics online malware attacks that a typical business user might encounter mostly when surfing the Internet.” The test introduced 1,163 harmful situations, such as malicious URLs, to the security software suites. Avast protected against 1,160, earning it a 99.7% real-world protection rate.

2 - The Malware Protection Test — This test “considers a scenario in which the malware enters the test system via the local area network or removable device, rather than directly from the Internet.” The lab injected 1,470 malware samples into the systems over the course of the evaluation. We’re proud to say that Avast blocked every one of them, achieving a 100% malware protection rate.

3 - The Performance Test — Instead of the defensive power of the antivirus, this test “looks at the impact each product has on the system’s performance, i.e. how much it slows down normal use of the PC while performing certain tasks.” The tasks analyzed were:

• File copying
• Archiving / unarchiving
• Installing / uninstalling applications
• Launching applications
• Downloading files
• Browsing websites

Avast earned a couple of “fast” ratings and twice that amount of “very fast” ratings, giving it a score of 98.7%, making it one of the top two best performers in the category.

The AV-Comp report summarizes Avast Business Antivirus Pro Plus as:

A strong product aimed at the small to medium-sized business looking for a solution that requires no onsite server component …. The UI is clear and clean, and the defaults are sensible for the smaller organisation. A non-technical user should not have any problems deploying this to their collection of Windows desktops, servers and macOS devices within their organisation and then keeping track of what happens…”
