Together, Avast and AVG offer the best free antivirus protection you can get. And you don't have to take just our word for it – AV-Comparatives agrees.
One of the many reasons Avast acquired AVG last year was our mutual confidence that we'd be better together, with improved security quality, reliability, and performance. The combination of Avast's CyberCapture and our artificial intelligence infrastructure and AVG's Behavior Shield to combat ransomware has indeed allowed us to keep 400 million people worldwide safe when they connect. And those 400 million users in turn act as sensors, supplying the big data that enables our Threat Intelligence Team to detect and disarm more malware than ever, around the clock and around the world.
What matters most, though, is how our security performs during crisis. And as we saw with the last month's WannaCry ransomware outbreak, thanks to this expert collaboration, not a single computer running updated Avast was infected. Protecting people online in this way is what brings us to work every day and makes that work meaningful.
We welcome third-party testing
AV-Comparatives, one of the most prestigious independent laboratories for security testing, has been evaluating our products for years. In their Real-World Test, they analyze security solutions' behavior against actual threats (phishing, malware, etc.), simulating today's real online world.
Because we believe everyone has the right to access the internet and to be secure while online (worry-free!), we hold our products to the highest standards. So we regularly submit our free security product to AV-Comparatives. And while we'd be dismayed if our product didn't perform well, this testing would alert us to necessary changes. After all, our users' safety and security is the most important goal, not just our test score.
We're happy to report, though, that not only did our free security product do well, among the 21 analyzed solutions, only Avast and AVG detected 100% of threats, with zero false positives.

Only the best protection won't slow you down
Best of all, our products protect users while minimally affecting computer performance. Compared to Microsoft's default solution, Windows Defender, which had a 36.7-point impact on performance, Avast and AVG products scored only 7.5 points. For this and many other reasons, we strongly recommend against default protection, which in this case neither protects sufficiently (Windows Defender scored only 99.5%) nor without affecting performance.

Protection for every device
As you can tell, we're proud of our products and the teams who build, maintain, and constantly seek ways to improve them. We're committed to keeping everyone who goes online safe, secure, and worry-free. Take a look at what we have for Windows, Mac, and Android devices, try them out, and let us know what you think. As much as we value AV-Comparatives, the most important testers are the people who rely on us, every day.
