Avast Free Antivirus scores 100% on Malware Protection Test.
With so many cybersecurity products crowding the marketplace, consumers are grateful for independent test lab AV-Comparatives. Like a friendly tech watchdog, the unbiased organization conducts monthly studies on security products, assessing detection and protection capabilities, among other things, and then publishing a report on its findings. The intent is to be a unbiased resource for consumers.
In March 2018, the lab ran a Malware Protection Test on 18 leading-brand antivirus products. To keep the testing and results as relevant as possible, the malware samples were fresh strains, discovered terrorizing users online as recently as the end of February 2018. Avast Free Antivirus was one of the products tested, and it successfully blocked 100% of the 20,046 malware samples launched at it.
The test allowed each product to use all its security resources, including cloud-based components; though it also looked at how the security software fared without an internet connection. Another part of the test entailed injecting safe files into the systems to check for false alarms. In every category, Avast beat the average:

For this, Avast earned the highest ranking award — an Advanced+ rating. While we received the same award for the same test back in September 2017, it’s even more rewarding to report that our software is still protecting against the most sophisticated malware strains currently at large.
