In an April 2016 test comparing the malware detection rates of 19 antivirus products, Avast Free Antivirus has a nearly perfect 100% detection rate (99.5%) with no false positives. Other vendors threw their premium versions into the ring, but we choose to send our free contender because we stand by its quality. Vendors include Kaspersky Internet Security, Microsoft Defender, and AVG Internet Security.

The AV-Comparatives Real-World Test

One of the most respected independent testing labs, AV-Comparatives, put 19 products under the microscope in a “Whole Product-Dynamic Real-World Protection Test.” This comprehensive test is called real-world because the lab runs it on a system that is just like what ordinary users run at home, school, or in small and medium-sized businesses worldwide. They used a machine with Microsoft 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with up-to-date software like Adobe Flash, Acrobat, and Java.

The test cases used cover a wide range of current malicious sites and provide insights into the protection given by the latest versions of the security products, using all their protection features, while surfing the web.

Check out the results on the chart at the AV-Comparatives Results Page.
