New threats face Mac users

The commonly held belief that Macs are immune from danger is being exposed as myth – luckily, there are security solutions

For years Macs were considered relatively safe from cybercrime. No one creates malware for Macs because there are so many more PCs and businesses usually run on PCs, many people believed. Criminals don’t target Macs, the prevailing opinion said.

Not anymore.

“It’s a commonly held belief that Macs are immune to malware,” began a Digital Trends headline last month. The article’s headline told the real story: “Phishing attacks against Macs are rising at an alarming rate,” It read.

In July, six examples of Mac malware were discovered, including one that takes steps to hide from security researchers, the Mac blog 9 to 5 Mac reported

And at this year’s Black Hat security conference, Apple announced a new bug bounty program that offers a million dollar reward to hackers who find vulnerabilities. “Security is a never-ending journey and our customers can be confident we are working for them,” Apple wrote in a blog post discussing security issues last month.

The tide has turned and Mac users are waking up to the fact that they need protection for their beloved laptops and desktop computers. Whether it’s ransomware scams reported by the FBI, or hacks of the Zoom video conferencing app on Macs, threats are increasing.

The good news is Mac users can take action to keep their computers safe. Installing a strong antivirus for Mac is an excellent step in defending your digital life. Avast Premium Security for Mac protects against malware, malicious websites, and vulnerable Wi-Fi connections. Enjoy even greater protection with Mac Security Pro, which alerts you to any intruders on your Wi-Fi network and also prevents ransomware from encrypting your valued files. Removing ransomware from your Mac can prevent further encryptions, but it won't decrypt any files already affected.

For a limited time we are offering Avast Premium Security for Mac for 20% off and just $3.99 a month for one device or 15% off and just $6.49 a month for all your devices.

There are new threats confronting Mac users, but Avast Premium Security has protection for your Mac and all the masterpieces you create.
