We are excited to share news with you. Our two-person, social media team now offers professional support. Since December 2012 Peter Bucek has been helping us respond to your technical and customer care inquiries in English, Spanish, and of course, Czech language. We are pleased to welcome Peter on the board and introduce him to YOU.

I have known Peter since I started 5 years ago with AVAST Software. When I joined the company in 2008 we have been working together in the support team. Peter is a very friendly, kind and cheerful person, always willing to help not only the customers but also other colleagues. Despite the rather routine job, he kept his creative and innovative attitude towards everyday tasks. He came up with idea of creating video manuals. Now thanks to Peter we can easily check: How to download, install and customize avast! Antivirus. He is a proud father of two lovely kids: a boy Jonáš and a girl Emma .

On October 17,  I have received the invitation for the event: Win8 BugHunt. As the only lady invited to this event I felt really flattered. However I had no clue what is this event actually about … So I did my “InfoHunt” and this is what I have discovered:

Instead of running a “boring” test on a compatibility between avast! Antivirus and Microsoft® Windows® 8 operating system, Lukáš Hasík (director of QA team*) along with Michal Vaněk (Senior Quality Assurance Engineer) decided to organize a competition.  They invited, exclusively selected, eleven AVAST employees to the internal test called Win8 BugHunt. The goal of a test was simple: find as much bugs as possible in the shortest period.

All eleven participants had to install the latest version of Windows® 8 OS and start testing the latest internal built of avast! Free Antivirus. Each participant was given two hours to pass 10 assignments. The idea was to follow a “regular avast! user experience”. I myself decided to participate as a neutral watcher and follow others struggling with their ten tasks, which were following:

1. Provide a custom installation of avast! Free Antivirus in a trial mode
2. Install selected browser (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari)
3. Test a functionality of a Browser protection: WebRep, SiteCorrect, Phishing
4. Test Remote Assistance feature

Who will it be?

When Martin Zima of the Avast Marketing team established the avast! Facebook page on December 2nd, 2008, he could not imagine, that nearly four years later this page would have two million fans! That’s a 2 with six zeros – 2,000,000. None of us could imagine it. And now, we are waiting in anticipation to welcome our 2 millionth Facebook fan.

Who will it be?

Let me give you the bigger picture: avast! antivirus is a Czech product; AVAST Software has it’s HQ in Prague; Prague has less than 1.3 million inhabitants, and the entire Czech Republic struggles to reach 11,000,000 people. Having a Facebook page with 2,000,000 fans is an outstanding result, and we can say that we are likely the biggest Czech-founded page in the world.

This however is not our success alone, but YOURS too. Without your LIKES, we wouldn’t be getting ready for this celebration. Therefore we are preparing some nice surprises for you. Every celebration however requires some preparation.   This “for play” can sometimes be even more enjoyable than the actual party. 

What you can expect in the upcoming days?

We estimate that we will reach 2,000,000 fans around  October 27^th. Maybe the 2 millionth fan will be one of your friends. YOU can help us speed this process up, so we can celebrate sooner. How? On June 14 – 15,  AVAST Software welcomes its global business partners to Prague, Czech Republic for an annual meeting. There are nearly 3,000 AVAST Software resellers worldwide, and this year we will host representatives from fourteen European countries, three countries from Asia, and three from North and Central America.

The main topic of this year’s gathering will be AVAST Software’s new line of business products. On June 4, 2012, the new avast! Endpoint Protection portfolio was launched, bringing the world’s most popular antivirus to the workplace in a user-friendly package. The launch of a business security product line is a fantastic opportunity to bring business partners together to discuss company strategy, development plans, technical and sales opportunities, and exchange business experiences.

We had an overwhelming response from the avast! community for our photo contest celebrating the launch of avast! Free for Mac. Over 50,000 submissions were entered through our Facebook fan page, and approximately 6,000 photos have been chosen to win one of five Apple MacBook Air computers. Now the voting is underway!

The rules were simple – in honor of avast! Free for Mac we asked you to take a photo of yourself with an apple.  At 50,000 plus photos, your response exceeded our expectations!  Again, you have proven how creative you are. Your photos were funny, original, and humorous. Simply amazing.
