Half the world is enough
A few months ago we posted this
article on AVAST Software founders Pavel Baudiš and Eduard Kučera
to our Written About Us page (a list of summaries and links to recent press coverage), but I wanted to bring attention to it here, as well.
Containing a brief history of what drove the two men to create software amid major political turmoil and economic transitions (i.e., regained Czechoslovak independence), the article highlights some of the problems they faced as a fledgling company in a new global environment. As well, it points to the difficult choices they made in terms of an innovative business model, which helped them to attain roles as world-class leaders in the antivirus industry.
For those who may wonder what AVAST Software’s plans are for 2011 (and beyond)… pay special attention to the last paragraph.

Thanks for the translators recognition in the article: one key to the internationalization.
Good Article and a very good Program, thanks to the Founders and all they’re working on.
It’s all very well ‘shouting’ the praises of Avast! but all that counts for nothing to your customers when there are major problems with the latest version v5.1.889, and the silence from you and your support team is deafing.
There are NUMEROUS posts in the user forums about this version, adn I logged a technical support ticket (ZMO-947118) two days ago, but still haven’t had any response.
Maybe it’s time to start ‘publisising’ the probelem to various security organisations on the net and the lack or response from Avast…
@Max Burke
Hi Max, according to our system you posted your ticket twice over the weekend. We’ll get to it today (Monday). I’m sorry you feel that is a “lack of response” – that seems to me a pretty good turnaround time.
@Max Burke Well, Max, major problems? I have installed 889 version on all of my computers at home and no problems for me… so maybe “major” is quite individual and minor, which can of course happen…
Read the numerous discussions in the Avast! user forums…
Not where internet connected computer security is concerned it isn’t.
Would you give that response to one of your major corporate customers?
@Max Burke
Sorry, Max, if I offended you. Sure, we understand that timely response is essential, and we do the best we can here — whether you are a corporate customer or an individual home user of Free Antivirus.
