Preparing the 100 million user celebration
avast! will soon reach the unbelievable threshold of 100 million registered users. Reaching this number is only possible thanks to people like you: avast! users who recommend us to friends and associates.
But preparing the proper event to celebrate gaining 100 million users has also been quite an achievement.
We started out with the basic challenge: How do you recognize the 100 millionth user when this person could live in a nearby Prague suburb or the jungles of Borneo.
Since Prague is known internationally, we decided an expenses-paid trip here would be the most easily recognized and appreciated prize. And, unlike a keg of beer—another potential prize— a trip would not be a legal issue in any country where there are avast! users.
It is absolutely amazing to put together a celebration where the winner can come from anywhere. We are really looking forward to meeting the lucky person and their friend next year. It is going to be a big surprise for everyone including us. Once the announcement is made, we are going to immediately hop on the internet and find out more about the location.
With millions of users around the globe, it would be highly ironic if a local person wins. If this person happens to come from Prague, we promise that we will take him or her out for a very nice dinner and discuss alternative travel plans. The winner will definitely not be disappointed. We will provide much more than a ticket to the Prague mass transit system.
The video about this event is a big first for us. It’s our first creative avast! video and the first video to get a number of viewings on YouTube. There are all sorts of Czech cultural references in the video. For example, the speaking statue is Saint John of Nepomuk. And when we watch it, we think, “Wow, weeks of work and the video is still less than a minute long!”
Please support us and go to YouTube to watch, rate or embed the avast! celebration video on your own page. (hyper link directly to YouTube – www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWdHnSgHRxY)
A big thank you from the avast! team.

[/Hmm, I don't understand how the winner will get knowledge of him victory..]
@Rafael
It’s on our website, winner will be notified by e-mail, after some time without response is considered as winner the next registered user.
Good one, maybe you should make a background image for your avastofficial youtube channel as other software companies have – look at youtube channels called officevideos and windowsvideos. It is just a simple 100k background picture and it makes the youtube channel look much better. anyway congrats on the 100m users!
Hi Avast team,
As i asked at facebook account, that whether this program valid for paid user of avast antivirus?

Well, I saw a popup on my computer screen on Nov. 26 saying the 100 millionth user has been achieved. Why no press release or other fanfare regarding this? Now that it’s happened, it seems to be almost handled in a hush-hush manner.
Something Off-Topic: Where is Avast 5.0?
@Kenny
Well there has been an on/off thing with the release day. The last post I heard was sometime very soon in the second half of November.
Personally I’m hoping for tomorrow actually.
@Liam
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-wins-top-cnet-recommendation.html says an “early 2010 launch”.
Just one question. Does this mean that person who will register as 100.000.000 user will be awarded with a trip to Prague or one out of entire user base of 100.000.000 users?
Because one or another makes a huge difference. If the first applies, all the existing (old and really old, in terms of avast! usage, not person age) avast! users fall out of the equation like a brick from a tall building. But if it’s the later, anyone from the 100 million user base has an equal chance of winning the trip. Just a thought on which i’d like to hear some clarification.
Thanks
Rejz
Well, I think celebrating needs to stop. Something very odd is happening with a lot of customers of Avast after the recent update. Forums are down, and a few people are sounding alarms about avast deleting system files and reporting a lot of programs as infected with trojans.
Thank you ? thank you ? For what ? for the poor job ???
